Over 300 people won prizes totaling almost $200,000. 2009 Scholarship Awards

Photograph provided by Riverview Media Photography

On June 13th, nearly 150 scholarship recipients were honored at the annual Scholarship Awards ceremony on the West Steps of the California State Capitol. Local TV personalities, community leaders, and Mayor Kevin Johnson came together to recognize these outstanding individuals as they head off on their college adventures. Scholarships are awarded each year to graduating high school seniors who were selected based on their outstanding academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement. It is because of generous funding by local community partners and Global Ronald McDonald House Charities, that RMHCNC is able to provide these scholarships. Thank you so much to everyone who supports this program and congratulations to this year's recipients!

All the usual camp activities - campfires, arts and crafts, archery, hiking, and canoeing - were offered in conjunction with group therapy sessions with licensed clinical therapists.

Volunteers in Action

Southwest Airlines Barbecue: On June 23rd, Southwest employees came to the House and hosted a cookout for 40 family members staying at the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House. The airline staff grilled hot dogs and hamburgers and brought all of the goodies to go with the barbeque. The delicious meal and great company were enjoyed by all.

Kennedy High School Students: On Thursday, June 26th, 70 incoming Honors program freshman from Kennedy High School came to the Ronald McDonald House to pull weeds, clean kitchens and toy rooms, box pop tabs, unpack baby formula and more. Their hard work was greatly appreciated and we hope to see them many more times over the next four years!

Boy Scout Eagle Project: As his Boy Scout Eagle Project, Brandon Robison installed a roof on one of the patio gazebos in order to protect family members from sun and rain. He also added to the landscape in the front of the office building. Brandon did an excellent job and brought lots of people together to make the families at the Ronald McDonald House more comfortable.
