About the House About Our Families Staying at the House Photo Tour House Committee

Families that stay at the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House come from all walks of life, all backgrounds, and from all across the country and around the world. Some families only need to stay at the House one time while others come back again and again while their child receives treatment. No matter how long or how often a family calls the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House their home away from home, they are forever part of our family. Below is some information about the families we have served.
  • Since opening in 1998, the House has provided temporary housing for approximately 1,000 families each year.
    • From 39 states across the country.
    • From China, Mexico, Ireland, Canada, Samoa, and Malaysia.
  • In 2007, 73% of our families came from 47 counties in California.
  • The Sacramento Ronald McDonald House averages 95% occupancy throughout the year.
  • The House serves 18 families each night.
  • The average length of stay for our families is seven nights.
  • Close to 1,000 families are turned away each year because the need for a place to stay far exceeds the number of rooms available.

Family Focus

Juliana walked through the doors of the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House for the first time in 2006. Nicholas, her three year old son, had been diagnosed with African Burkitts Lymphoma EBV positive. His battle with cancer was just beginning and after eight months in the hospital, he joined his mom at their 'home-away-from-home.'

Two years later, Nicholas has been in and out of the hospital almost daily. During this time, he has also been diagnosed with autism and Eosinophilic Disorder. There is no cure for EE and its devastating, long term, potentially fatal effects; only treatment and maintenance. Their hope now is to go to Cincinnati where there are specialists in EE. As a part of the RMHC family, Juliana and Nicholas are in our thoughts each day.
