Sacramento Ronald McDonald House About the House |
|
Why we are here: Families with ill children need a "home away from home" while their children are receiving treatment at area hospitals. Many families travel great distances for their child’s medical care and need a place to rest while they remain near their child. The Sacramento Ronald McDonald House is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to help these families by providing an atmosphere where families can rest, reflect and find mutual support.
What we offer:The Sacramento Ronald McDonald House is a 20-bedroom facility which provides a safe haven for families of children undergoing treatment at area hospitals. There are two buildings which each house eight families. Each family has their own private bedroom, bathroom, small individual refrigerator and food storage compartment. Four families share a kitchen and washer and dryer. Community areas include a living room, family room, dining room, and children’s play room in each building. One bedroom and the hallway bathroom in each building is handicap accessible. There are also two 2-bedroom apartments for larger families. Each apartment has 2 bedrooms, washer/dryer, full kitchen, handicap accessible bathroom, living room and dining room. The rooms are complete with linen and towels. Kitchens include all the necessary utensils, pots and pans and dishes. Families are responsible for their own food. Who's eligible: To be eligible to stay at the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House, families must have a child who is 18 years or younger who is being treated at one of the area hospitals inpatient or outpatient. Also, families must live at least 30 miles away and have a permanent home address.
How guests are admitted:All admissions to the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House are initiated by a hospital health care individual (doctor, nurse, social worker) from any one of the five local hospitals University of California Davis Medical Center, Shriners, Sutter, Kaiser or Mercy. Families, including siblings and extended family members, may stay at the Sacramento Ronald McDonald House while the child is being treated either as an inpatient or outpatient. Each family is assigned a room in an eight-plex with a maximum of four people per room or a duplex. Rooms are available with a priority to pediatric intensive care patient’s families, followed by inpatient and then outpatient families. Families may stay up to 30 days depending upon availability. Rooms are $20 per night. House Committee: The House Committee is comprised of volunteers with special expertise who come together once a month to help make sure the House runs smoothly.
